According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which categorises almost 129,000 animal and plant species, including 35,765 threatened with extinction, 31 species fell into the extinct category in 2020, i.e. disappeared in the wild. Climate change and overfishing are thought to be the reasons for this.
