In Writer Square (Denver), Rockefeller Center in New York and other American cities, “giving machines” have been installed for the third year to encourage solidarity during the holiday season.

It is not uncommon during the holiday season to come across machines on the street that look like vending machines… but are not! These machines, which are operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, will be in operation until 1 January 2022 to give to those in need. There is something for everyone, with donations ranging from $5 to $250, and the volunteers emphasize how easy it is to help others. When a donor makes a purchase, the “giving machine” hands out a card with a picture and a description of their donation. 100% of all donations go directly to each participating charity.

650,000 raised in 2020, this year the target is one million

The donation machines are very busy, with volunteers present from 9am until 9pm, and also different charities that have joined the project and use the machines to provide essential items to people in need. Many organizations are cooperating in this operation: CARE, UNICEF USA, WaterAid, USA for UNHR, the Mariano Rivera Foundation, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, the New York Board of Rabbis, the Actors Fund and Latter-day Saint Charities… An original and supportive opportunity to help those who need it most.
